Not familiar with ANY of this at all, but first of all: Chill, people. It’s a fictional character. Yeah, I’d get upset if my favorite characters were changed dramatically- hell, I was so upset when they changed Britta on Community from being an intelligent, activist, yet somewhat of a “dumb blonde” to just being DUMB. But to me that was a different scenario since that was a character that was just born into the fictional world of pop culture.

I know that the Teen Titans series has been around for decades, so there must have been at least some reboots to the characters since. I’m guessing Starfire has been dramatically changed the most, yes? I’m sure if I did my research before I started this post, I’d find so many flaws with the statements that everyone is making— but if what Mimi is saying is true, which I assume is, then come on. She was already sexualized at one point. Is it just the stereotype that is driving people insane? That sex is so taboo? Or is it that the character development wasn’t even development, but just a marketing strategy that sex sells? Oooooooh the world will never know.

Second, as Mimi stated: “so if she just wants to fuck to feel good then more power to her…” There. That sums it all up. DO WHATCHU WANT, QURL.

I keep writing a response to this and it keeps glitching and not posting.

Here’s the gist of it: It’s not Starfire getting independent and sleeping around for enjoyment, it’s deliberate writing of her as an emotionless sex object. And it’s not just her, they’re sexing up every female character because they think it’ll attract more readers. Every female hero has become some offensive stereotype of a woman, from Catwoman being this overly-clingy character who does everything so Bruce will pay attention to her, to Star being the neighborhood fuck buddy who’s “too cool to care” about relationships or anything beyond the physical. New 52 is a serious step in the wrong direction, and that’s why people are mad.
